三字經 sān zì jīng: Three Character Classic


1.Rén zhī chū, xìng běnshàn; xìng xiāngjìn, xíxiāngyuǎn.
人之初,性本善;性相近,習相遠。
2.Gǒu bù jiào, xìng nǎi qiān; jiàozhī dào, guì yǐ zhuān.
苟不教,性乃遷;教之道,貴以專。
3.Xī mèng mǔ, zé lín chù; zi bù xué, duàn jīzhù.
昔孟母,擇鄰處;子不學,斷機杼。
4.Dòu yànshān, yǒu yì fāng; jiào wǔzǐ, míng jù yáng.
竇燕山,有義方;教五子,名俱揚。
5. Yǎng bù jiào, fǔ zhīguò; jiào bù yán, shī zhī duò.
養不教,父之過;教不嚴,師之惰。
6. Zi bù xué, fēi suǒ yí; yòu bù xué, lǎo hé wèi?
子不學,非所宜;幼不學,老何為?
7. Yù bù zuó, bùchéngqì; rén bù xué, bùzhī yì.
玉不琢,不成器;人不學,不知義。
8. Wéi rén zǐ, fāng shǎo shí; qīn shīyǒu, xí lǐyí.
為人子,方少時;親師友,習禮儀。
9.Xiāng jiǔ líng, néng wēn xí; xiào yú qīn, suǒ dāng zhí.
香九齡,能溫席;孝於親,所當執。
10.Róng sì suì, néng ràng lí; tì yú zhǎng, yí xiānzhī.
融四,能讓梨;弟於長,宜先知。
11.Shǒu xiàotì, cì jiànwén; zhī mǒu shù, shí mǒu wén.
首孝弟,次見聞;知某數,識某文。
12.Yī ér shí, shí ér bǎi, bǎi ér qiān, qiān ér wàn.
一而十,十而百,百而千,千而萬。
13.Sāncái zhě, tiāndì rén. Sānguāng zhě, rì yuè xīng.
三才者,天地人。三光者,日月星。
14.Sān gāng zhě, jūnchén yì, fùzǐ qīn, fūfù shùn.
三綱者,君臣義,父子親,夫婦順。
15.Yuē chūn xià, yuē qiūdōng; cǐ sì shí, yùn bù qióng.
曰春夏,曰秋冬;此四時,運不窮。
16.Yuē nánběi, yuē xīdōng; cǐ sìfāng, yīng hū zhōng.
曰南北,曰西東;此四方,應乎中。
17.Yuē shuǐhuǒ, mù jīn tǔ; cǐ wǔháng, běn hū shù.
曰水火,木金土;此五行,本乎數。
18.Yuē rényì, lǐ zhìxìn; cǐ wǔcháng, bùróng wěn.

曰仁義,禮智信;此五常,不容紊。

Radical Picture Book Project (100 points,Due Wednesday,July 22nd)

Requirements for Radical Picture Book Project * Have an introduction paragraph (in English) to introduce Chinese radicals to your readers Wikipedia entry on Chinese Radicals: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radical_(Chinese_characters)
* At least 20 radicals
* Have a PICTURE of the character on each page
*All characters need to be hand-written
*Have a cover page, include a title to your book (some names you can use include:
部首書-Chinese radical book, 我的部首書-My Radical Book 部首圖畫書 --Radical picture book
*Have a back cover page that is empty
* Beside the radical (and its variant form if there is one) and picture, you must include at least 4 other information. You can choose from: Pinyin, English meaning, stroke count, stroke order, Evolution of the character, word examples with English meaning and anything you feel is appropriate for this project.
*Have the book organized by chapters; each chapter should be a category. Some ideas for categories includes: body part, nature, animal, family, daily life, farm,

Chineseliteracy.net: http://www.chineseliteracy.net/login/login.php (userID: Startalk; password: Class2014). Go to Volume 1 Chapter 4 to learn about detail of 20 most common radicals. Go to Radical Chart and then Kangxi Radicals Traditional Form. Look up character by stroke count.

*Show evolution (different forms of the character in history) of the characters
