Sentence
structures and grammar points:
*的
is the possessive particle.( ’s in English)
ex. 我 is I, 我的
means “my” or “mine”, David’s cat is
translated as “David 的猫”
*有 could mean “have,
has, had” or “there is, there are,
there was or there were” ( There is no tense in Chinese. )
* Generally, Chinese word order is subject +verb +object (SVO). That applies to questions as
well as statement. Ex 你的家(S)
有(V) 几个人(O)?
Household size:
Question:
你的家有几个人? (Literally, “your family has how many people”)
Answer:我的家有三个人。(My
family has 3 people. Once again, answer follows the EXACT SAME word order as
the question in Chinese. You replace the question word with the answer)
Family
member:
Question: 你的家有谁 (Literally, “your family has who”, 的could
be omitted, so you could say 你家有谁as
well)
Answer: 我的家有爸爸, 妈妈和我 (again,
you replace question word 谁with the answer,
family member.)
Pet
Question:你有什么宠物?(Literally,
“you have what pet?”)
Answer: 我有一只狗, 一只猫和两条鱼。(same
as in English, when listing,
you need a conjunction “and” –和)
Age:
Question: 你 几 岁?(Literally, “you how many years old?”)
Answer: 我十四岁。(Literally, I 14 years
old)
Birthday:
Question:你的生日是几月几号?(Literally,“your
birthday is what month what day?”)
Answer: 我的生日是七月八号.

生日 sheng rì : birthday
